Death details: The family was informed Burton was captured by the Japanese. While in custody, a U.S. captain who spoke Japanese assisted in demanding Burton turn over food which was divided among capture American troops. A few days after he refused, Burton was taken by a shallow grave and executed. The U.S. captain was charged with treason after the war.
