KIA on September 11, 1944.
He was the Tail Gunner and his B-17 aircraft went down during a mission to bombard enemy forces at Leipzig, Germany. Of the nine crewmembers, four were killed including Harvey’s older brother Russel L Stark who was the Waist Gunner on the same aircraft. After the Stark brothers died the same day in 1944, the War Department transferred their older brother to permanent duty in the United States “in recognition of family sacrifice to the war.” Their brother survived the war.
