Alvin Lee Levan, age 19, from Catawissa, Pennsylvania, Columbia county.

Date of death: Tuesday, October 25, 1966
Death details:  Seaman Alvin Lee Levan, who joined the U.S. Navy from Pennsylvania, served in the Patrol Craft Fast Division 105, Coastal Squadron 1. On October 25, 1966, he was serving as a gunner aboard PCF 87 on a routine patrol off the coast of South Vietnam when he fell off the boat in the vicinity of (GC) 49Q CQ 500 300. Four surface vessels and several aircraft searched for him but were unsuccessful. After the incident, the Navy promoted SN Levan to the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class (GMG3). Today, Gunner’s Mate Third Class Levan is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. 

Based on all information available, DPAA assessed the individual’s case to be in the analytical category of Non-recoverable.
