Death details: Silver Star citation: “When incoming mortars started impacting the perimeter which Sergeant Ufford’s squad was securing, believing that these mortars were from friendly forces and with complete disregard for his own safety, he rushed through the havy fire to the radio in a desparate attempt to hck the firing of the mortars. Seconds after he had finished calling for a cease-fire, he was mortally wounded by the last of the incoming rounds.”
