Date of death: Friday, July 24, 1970
Death details:On January 29, 1998, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Captain Donald Bruce Bloodworth, missing from the Vietnam War.
Captain Bloodworth joined the U.S. Air Force from California, and was a member of the 55th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On July 24, he was the navigator aboard an F-4D Phantom II (serial number 67-7761) serving as an escort for a night armed reconnaissance mission over Laos. Captain Bloodworth’s Phantom went down during the mission, and he was killed in the crash. The crash site was located, but enemy presence in the area prevented search efforts. In 1993, a joint U.S. and Laotian search team recovered human remains from the Phantom’s crash site. In 1998, forensic analysis identified the recovered remains as those of Capt Bloodworth.
