Wilson, Gordon Scott
Air Force Major
Gordon Scott Wilson from Hobart, Indiana.
Service era: Vietnam
Date of death: November 22, 1966
Death details: On October 22, 1986, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Gordon Scott Wilson, missing from the Vietnam War.
Major Wilson joined the U.S. Air Force from Indiana and served with the 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On November 22, 1966, he served as the aircraft commander on board an F4-C Phantom (tail number 64-755) on a combat mission over enemy targets in Bac Thai Province, North Vietnam. During the mission, the Phantom was struck by a surface-to-air missile and Major Wilson was killed. Hostile presence in the area inhibited search efforts for him or his remains at the time. In 1986, the Vietnamese government repatriated human remains to the U.S. which were later identified as those of Maj Wilson.
