John was a bunkmate of mine on ship as we traveled to Beirut in May 1983. We worked closely together while in Beirut from that time until he was tragically killed on Oct 23, 1983. I can’t say enough good things about John, as he was a man of integrity and the consummate Marine Officer. I was honored to have served with a Marine of such tremendous character. I have often said that if John had lived and would have remained in our Corps he would have become a General Officer.
