Lehnhoff, Edward William Jr.
Air Force Lieutenant colonel

Edward William Jr. Lehnhoff, age 31, from Kansas, Bourbon county.

Service era: Vietnam

Date of death: Saturday, November 18, 1967
Death details: On February 3, 1988, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Colonel Edward William Lehnhoff Jr., missing from the Vietnam War.

Colonel Lehnhoff, who joined the U.S. Air Force from Missouri, served with the 44th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On November 18, 1967, he was a crewmember on board an F-105D Thunderchief on a mission over North Vietnam. During the mission, the Skyraider was shot down by an enemy missile and Col Lehnhoff was killed. Enemy presence in the area precluded search efforts immediately following the crash. In 1987, the Vietnamese government repatriated human remains to the U.S. which were later identified as those of Col Lehnhoff.
