Death details: On October 25, 1977, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Major Warren Richard Spencer, missing from the Vietnam War.

Major Spencer joined the U.S. Air Force from Indiana and was a member of the 744th Bombardment Squadron. On December 20, 1972, he was the radar navigator aboard a B-52 Stratofortress on a bombing mission against enemy targets in Hanoi, North Vietnam. The B-52 was shot down during the mission, and Maj Spencer was killed in the incident. The loss occurred in enemy territory and his remains could not be recovered at the time. In September 1977, Maj Spencer’s remains were returned to U.S. custody, and were identified shortly thereafter.
