Death details: Army Spc. Adelbert F. Mihalek was reported missing in Vietnam in March 1966. He wasn’t seen after it was believed he stepped on an enemy mine. His mom learned via telegraph her son was missing. Then the second telegram arrived months later. She cried to a reporter: “When the second telegram came, it was as though the mine had exploded inside me. Only then did I relize it was horribly, horribly true.”
