Death details: On April 3, 1998, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Colonel Richard Kenneth Allee, missing from the Vietnam War.

Colonel Allee joined the U.S. Air Force from New York and was a member of the 345th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On December 21, 1968, he piloted an F-105D Thunderchief (tail number 61-0089) on an escort mission over Laos. After completing the escort, Col Allee’s formation performed a strike against a target indicated by a forward air-controller. Col Allee’s Thunderchief went down while flying over the secondary target, and he was killed in the crash. Immediate search efforts failed to locate him, and hostile presence in the area prevented further investigations. In December 1996, a joint U.S. and Laotian investigative team recovered human remains at a site associated with Col Allee’s loss. In 1998, forensic analysis identified the recovered remains as those of Col Allee.
