Death details: Roman-Martinez and seven soldiers broke Fort Bragg rules to stay overnight on Stouh Core Banks, an island along Cape Lookout National Seashore. He disappeared. The others called 911. His severed head washed up on a nearby island a week after he disappeared. Some of the soldiers were charged with drug charges related to the trip. The case was moved to cold case status in November 2021.
