Wilkins, Paul Walter

Date of death: Tuesday, July 11, 1950
Death details: On October 30, 2020, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of Corporal Paul Walter Wilkins, missing from the Korean War. Corporal Wilkins joined the U.S. Army from Pennsylvania and was a member of B Company, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. On July 11, 1950, he was reported missing in action while his unit was fighting North Korean forces near Choch’iwan, Republic of Korea. On October 4, 1950, an unknown set of remains were buried at the United Nations Military Cemetery at Taejon, South Korea. This set of remains could not be identified at the time, and were eventually buried as unknown remains at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. In July of 2019, this set of remains were exhumed and accessioned into the DPAA laboratory. A multi-disciplinary analysis led to the identification of these remains as those of CPL Wilkins. Corporal Wilkins is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
