Death details: On April 17, 1974, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Commander Richard Danner Hartman, missing from the Vietnam War. Commander Hartman, who joined the U.S. Navy from New Jersey, served with Attack Squadron 164. On July 18, 1967, he piloted an A-4E Skyhawk (bureau number 151986) on a bombing mission over North Vietnam. During the mission, the Skyhawk was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery. Commender Hartman survived the crash and was subsequently captured by the North Vietnamese, but died in captivity from injuries he had sustained during the crash. In 1974, the Vietnamese government repatriated remains which were later identified as those of CDR Hartman.
