Death details: Died while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Department of Defense later said he was killed by friendly fire from a drone. Navy Hospitalman Benjamin D. Rast also died.

Death details: Died while conducting a dismounted patrol northeast of Patrol Base Alcatraz, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The military would later release he was killed by friendly fire by a drone airstrike. Also killed was Marine Sgt. Jeremy Smith
