Death details: On June 27, 1983, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii(CILH, now DPAA) identified the remains of Commander Donald Frederick Lindland, missing from the Vietnam War. Commander Lindland joined the U.S. Navy from Oregon and was a member of Attack Squadron 75. In September 6, 1972, he was the pilot of an A-6A Intruder that was shot down during a combat mission over Vietnam. Commander Lindland ejected from the aircraft before it crashed, but died at some point after bailing out. The details of his loss are not known and his body could not be recovered at the time. In 1983, the Vietnamese government returned a set of remains they associated with CDR Lindland, and U.S. analysts confirmed the identification a short time later. Commander Lindland is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. His name is also inscribed along with all his fallen comrades on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
