Date of death: Sunday, May 18, 1969
Death details: Bronze Star citation: For heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Private First Class Fogleman distinguished himself while serving as a Machine Gunner with Company D, 2/35th Infantry. On May 18, 1969, Private First Class Fogleman’s unit was moving to the aid of a sister unit which was in contact with a large enemy force when they also came under heavy enemy fire. He immediately moved forward from his rear position and with only a minimum of cover, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, took the enemy force under fire. He remained exposed while suppressing the enemy long enough to allow his comrades to retrieve the wounded and withdraw to safety. He then began to withdraw but was fatally wounded by the intense hostile fire. Private First Class Fogleman’s selfless courage, determination, and exemplary devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
