Death details: On December 15, 1950, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the U.S. Army’s 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, were defending positions northwest of the town of Hamhung, North Korea, when they came under attack from Chinese Communist Forces (CCF). The attackers surrounded a platoon of the 2nd Battalion’s Company G, cutting them off from other friendly troops. Relief forces made repeated attempts to break through the CCF encirclement, but failed to free the surrounded troops of Company G. The 1st and 2nd Battalions were eventually ordered to withdraw toward the coast to avoid being overrun in the CCF offensive. Corporal Camille Plaisance entered the U.S. Army from Louisiana and was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He went missing on December 15, 1950, during this CCF attack. He was reported as last seen during the withdrawal in the vicinity of Sangyang-ni, North Korea, though the exact details surrounding his loss are unknown. He was never reported as a prisoner of war, and he remains unaccounted-for. Today, Corporal Plaisance is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
