Death details: First Lieutenant Leslie Lee Garrow, who entered the U.S. Air Force from Michigan, served in the 8th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 49th Fighter-Bomber Group. On April 8, 1953, he was the pilot of an F-84E Thunderjet (serial number 51-539A) that took off from K-8 Kunsan airbase, South Korea, on an attack mission against an enemy railroad bridge in North Korea. After bombing the bridge, the flight identified and attacked a group of enemy trucks. Other pilots had radio contact with 1st Lt Garrow during the attack on the trucks, but he failed to rejoin the flight. The other pilots on the flight returned to the area and searched for 1st Lt Garrow but found no trace of him or his aircraft. No returning POWs mentioned having contact with 1st Lt Garrow, nor was he seen at any known holding point, interrogation center, hospital, or permanent POW camp. He remains unaccounted-for. Today, First Lieutenant Garrow is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
