Bradshaw, Robert Samuel III
Marines 1st lieutenant

Robert Samuel III Bradshaw, age 27, from Lufkin, Texas, Angelina county.

Service era: Vietnam

Date of death: Thursday, February 12, 1970
Death details: On February 12, 1970, an F-4B Phantom II (bureau number 151454, call sign “Lovebug 225-2″) with two crew members took off as the second in a flight of two aircraft on a combat mission over South Vietnam. While awaiting permission to move inland and drop its ordnance, “Lovebug 225-2” started to change positions relative to the flight leader when it was seen to roll away into overcast skies, in the vicinity of (GC) 48Q YD 850 560. Shortly afterward, “Lovebug 225-2” radioed the flight leader, “It is okay. We are alright,” and then was not heard from again. The flight leader attempted to re-establish contact but was unsuccessful, and the cloud coverage prevented him from conducting an immediate visual search for the missing aircraft. Further search efforts were unable to locate the aircraft or its crew. First Lieutenant Robert Samuel Bradshaw III entered the U.S. Marine Corps from Texas and was a member of the Marine Attack Squadron 122, Marine Air Group 13, 1st Marine Air Wing. He was the radar intercept officer aboard this Phantom when it went missing, and he was lost with the aircraft. He remains unaccounted for. Today, First Lieutenant Bradshaw is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Terrell, Joseph Allen
Army Private

Joseph Allen Terrell, age 30, from Lufkin, Texas, Dallas county.

Service era: Korea

Date of death: Thursday, November 2, 1950
Death details: On March 6, 2011, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC, now DPAA) identified the remains of Private First Class Joseph Allen Terrell, missing from the Korean War. Private First Class Terrell entered the U.S. Army from Texas and served with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On November 2, 1950, members of Company L were occupying a defensive position near Unsan, North Korea, north of a bend in the Kuryong River known as the “Camel’s Head Bend.” That day, elements of the Chinese Communist Forces struck the 1st Cavalry Division’s lines, collapsing the perimeter and forcing a withdrawal. PFC Terrell did not survive this combat, though the details surrounding his loss are not recorded. In 1993, the North Korean government turned over a number of sets of remains of U.S. service members, including service members lost near Unsan, and U.S. analysts eventually identified PFC Terrell from these remains.
