Death details: On March 7, 1996, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Captain Andrew Ivan Jr., missing from the Vietnam War.

Captain Ivan joined the U.S. Air Force from New Jersey and was a member of the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On September 10, 1971, he piloted an F-4 Phantom II (66-8712) on a weather observation mission over Laos. Captain Ivan’s aircraft went down during the mission, and he was killed in the crash. His remains were not located or recovered following the incident. In August 1994, a joint U.S. and Laotian search team recovered remains from the Phantom’s crash site that were later identified as those of Capt Ivan.
