Death details: Gordon often wrote his family from Vietnam but late in 1965 said he wouldn’t be able to write for about a week. He was going out with his men to fight the Viet Cong. The next word received was a notice he was killed in action December 11. The family at first struggled with where to bury his remains, as they wanted him close to home but he was a soldier entitled to the highest honors. The answer was found in the pocket of an extra dress uniform left at home. The note said Arlington National.
