Death details: On April 18, 1997, Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Daniel Vernor Borah Jr., missing from the Vietnam War.
Lieutenant Borah joined the U.S. Navy from Illinois and was a member of Attack Squadron 115. On September 24, 1972, he piloted an A-7 Corsair on a strike mission against enemy troops in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. Lieutenant Borah’s aircraft was downed by anti-aircraft fire during the mission, and he was killed in the incident. Immediate search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful in locating him. In March 1996, a joint U.S. and Vietnamese search team recovered remains from a crash site associated with LT Borah’s loss. Forensic analysis identified the remains as those of LT Borah.
