Death details: On January 24, 1966, an F-4B Phantom II (bureau number 152276) with two crew members took off from Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam, as one of four aircraft on a mission to drop napalm on an enemy target seven miles southwest of Hue-Phu Bai, Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. After a successful drop, the Phantom began its return flight, and another aircraft on the mission reported that it and this F-4B were on their way back to base. However, the Phantom never returned to Da Nang, and it was not seen again. Immediate searches were conducted but were unsuccessful in locating the missing aircraft or crew. Second Lieutenant Delmar George Booze entered the U.S. Marine Corps from Nebraska and was a member of the Marine Attack Fighter Squadron 314, Marine Air Group 11, 1st Marine Air Wing. He was the bombardier/navigator aboard this Phantom II when it went missing on January 24, 1966, and was lost with the aircraft. Further attempts to locate or identify his remains have been unsuccessful. After the incident, the U.S. Marine Corps promoted 2ndLt Booze to the rank of Major (Maj). Today, Major Booze is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. His name is also inscribed along with all his fallen comrades on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC.
