Storz, Ronald Edward

Date of death: Thursday, April 23, 1970
Death details: On April 22, 1974, the Central Identification Laboratory–Thailand (CILT, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Edward Storz, missing from the Vietnam War. Lieutenant Colonel Storz entered the U.S. Air Force from New York and was a member of the 33rd Air Base Squadron. On April 28, 1965, he piloted an O-1A Bird Dog (tail number unknown) that took off from Tan Son Nhut Air Base, South Vietnam, an observation mission over North Vietnam. While in the target area, the aircraft was shot down by enemy fire; Lt Col Storz survived the crash but was taken captive and became one of the “Alcatraz 11,” a group of American prisoners of war (POWs) held in isolated confinement in Hanoi, North Vietnam. He died from illness and untreated injuries while still held captive on April 23, 1970. The Vietnamese government repatriated later repatriated a set of remains that U.S. analysts identified as those of Lt Col Storz.
