Death details: On May 11, 2022, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of Corporal Jack Shelton Brown, missing from World War II.
Corporal Brown entered the U.S. Marine Corps from Virginia and served in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. From June 15 to July 9, 1944, the 4th Marine Division took part in the Battle of Saipan against Japanese forces occupying the island. CPL Brown was killed in action on Saipan on July 8, 1944. His remains could not be recovered at the time of his loss. In 2021, an unknown set of remains that had been recovered from Saipan were disinterred and accessioned into the DPAA laboratory for examination. Laboratory analysis led to the identification of these remains as those of CPL Brown.
