Death details: He was leading his men when they encountered a bunker complex. The platoon located several hundred feet away, received a heavy volume of fire from snipers. A hand grenade landed in the midst of his squad and instantly he lunged forward and covered the grenade with his body, absorbing the blast. Received the Medal of Honor.
