Death details: On October 3, 1989, the Central Identification Laboratory-Hawaii (CILH, now DPAA) identified the remains of Captain Larry Allen Trimble, missing from the Vietnam War. Captain Trimble joined the U.S. Air Force from Washington and was a member of the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron. On April 15, 1972, he was the aircraft commander aboard an F-4E Phantom II (serial number 66-0324) on an armed reconnaissance mission along Route 101 in Vietnam. Captain Trimble’s aircraft was downed by a surface-to-air missile during the mission, and he was killed in the crash. Search efforts failed to locate his remains at the time. In April 1989, the Vietnamese government repatriated a set of remains that U.S. analysts subsequently identified as those of Capt Trimble.
