Death details: On October 5, 2005, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC, now DPAA) identified the remains of Corporal Edward Frank Blazejewski, missing from the Korean War. Corporal Blazejewski entered the U.S. Army from New Jersey and served with the Medical Company, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On November 1, 1950, he was killed by a grenade explosion when his unit came under heavy artillery attack by Chinese Communist Forces near Unsan, North Korea. His body was not recovered at the time due to battle conditions. In August 1997, a joint U.S./North Korean team excavated a site in Pyongan Province near Unsan and recovered human remains. Analysts were able to successfully identify CPL Blazejewski from among the remains recovered.
