Date of death: Thursday, March 10, 1966
Death details: Sergeant James Lawrence Taylor, who joined the U.S. Army from West Virginia, was a member of Detachment A-503, 5th Special Forces Group. On March 10, 1966, he was seriously wounded by a recoilless rifle round explosion inside his bunker at the Ashau Special Forces Camp when North Vietnamese Army troops attacked. A South Vietnamese medic pronounced SGT Taylor dead, and his body was left in the vicinity of Grid Coordinates YC 485 845. Later searches found no sign of SGT Taylor’s remains, and he is still unaccounted-for. Today, Sergeant Taylor is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
