Worrell, Morris R.
Army Private 1st class

Morris R. Worrell, age 21, from Nebraska, Cuming county.

Service era: World War II
Military history: 31 Infantry Regiment

Date of death: Sunday, September 27, 1942
Death details: On August 13, 2018, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of Private First Class Morris R. Worrell, missing from World War II. Private First Class Worrell entered the U.S. Army from Nebraska and served with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment when Japanese forces invaded the Philippine islands in 1942. He was captured in Bataan following the American surrender on April 9, and died of dysentery and malaria on September 27 at the Cabanatuan Prison Camp in Nueva Ecija Province. He was buried in a communal grave in the camp cemetery along with other deceased American POWs; however, his remains were not associated with any remains recovered from Cabanatuan after the war. In 2016, advances in forensic techniques prompted American personnel to exhume and reexamine a set of “unknown” remains that had been interred at the Manila American Cemetery. DPAA analysts identified these remains as those of PFC Worrell.
